In 2022, overseas shipments of test benches decreased by -16.7% to X units, falling for the fourth year in a row after four years of growth. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 11%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, test bench exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a mild slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 11% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Germany was the key exporter of test benches in the European Union, with the volume of exports amounting to X units, which was approx. 37% of total exports in 2022. Italy (X units) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Czech Republic (11%), Austria (11%) and Poland (9.5%). France (X units) and Spain (X units) held a little share of total exports.

Exports from Germany decreased at an average annual rate of -4.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Poland (+45.7%), Austria (+3.6%) and Italy (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +45.7% from 2012-2022. The Czech Republic, France and Spain experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Poland, Austria and Italy increased by +9.3, +3.7 and +3.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest test bench supplier in the European Union, comprising 39% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Austria, with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany amounted to -5.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (-0.0% per year) and Austria (-0.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -15.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a mild curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 16%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then declined sharply in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+2.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2022, the amount of test benches imported in the European Union declined significantly to X units, dropping by -22% on the year before. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 30%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, test bench imports declined sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 23%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

Germany (X units) and Italy (X units) were the largest importers of test benches in 2022, finishing at near 23% and 22% of total imports, respectively. France (X units) took a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Sweden (7.1%), Romania (6.2%) and Belgium (6%). Austria (X units), Slovakia (X units), Poland (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Hungary (X units) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Slovakia (with a CAGR of +10.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and France ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 48% share of total imports. Romania, Austria, Sweden, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Poland and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 41%.

Romania, with a CAGR of +9.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while Belgium ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
