The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +72.9% against 2015 indices. Italy (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 13% share, followed by Portugal (7.3%) and Germany (5.4%). France (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 13%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Italy ($X per ton) and Austria ($X per ton), while Germany ($X per ton) and Spain ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
