Unvulcanised Rubber Market Size in the EU

In 2021, the EU unvulcanised rubber market decreased by -30% to $X, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, consumption recorded a noticeable descent. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, unvulcanised rubber production soared to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the production volume increased by 27% against the previous year. The level of production peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, overseas shipments of unvulcanised rubber were finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 11%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, unvulcanised rubber exports reached $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a mild decrease. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by Italy (X tons), Poland (X tons), France (X tons), Spain (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) represented the main exporters of unvulcanised rubber, together generating 86% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +7.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and Poland ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 55% of total exports.

Italy, with a CAGR of +2.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, rising by 5.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a pronounced decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 9.2%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Belgium ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton), while Romania ($X per ton) and Poland ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (-0.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in the EU

After two years of decline, overseas purchases of unvulcanised rubber increased by 4.7% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 10%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, unvulcanised rubber imports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight contraction. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Poland (X tons), distantly followed by Spain (X tons), Germany (X tons), France (X tons), Romania (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) represented the key importers of unvulcanised rubber, together achieving 78% of total imports. The following importers - Belgium (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), Slovenia (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and Luxembourg (X tons) - together made up 17% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Slovenia (with a CAGR of +17.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Germany ($X) and Spain ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 44% of total imports. France, Italy, Romania, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Portugal and Luxembourg lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 51%.

Among the main importing countries, Slovenia, with a CAGR of +14.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, growing by 9.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+2.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
