The level of consumption peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, non-propelled vehicle production rose significantly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 12%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2021, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports in the EU
In 2021, overseas shipments of vehicles not mechanically propelled increased by 5.4% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 93%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-propelled vehicle exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Germany represented the main exporter of vehicles not mechanically propelled in the European Union, with the volume of exports recording X units, which was approx. 33% of total exports in 2021. Poland (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 15% share, followed by the Netherlands (13%), the Czech Republic (6.2%) and France (5.7%). Italy (X units), Belgium (X units), Sweden (X units), Spain (X units), Finland (X units), Croatia (X units) and Romania (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-propelled vehicle exports from Germany stood at +20.0%. At the same time, Belgium (+23.0%), France (+16.9%), Spain (+14.9%), Sweden (+13.6%), the Netherlands (+5.8%), Poland (+5.6%) and Italy (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belgium emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +23.0% from 2012-2021. Finland, the Czech Republic and Croatia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Romania (-5.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Germany (+20 p.p.), France (+2.9 p.p.) and Belgium (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Finland (-2.2 p.p.), Croatia (-2.5 p.p.), the Netherlands (-3.1 p.p.), Italy (-3.1 p.p.), Poland (-4 p.p.), Romania (-4.3 p.p.) and the Czech Republic (-6.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest non-propelled vehicle supplier in the European Union, comprising 36% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany stood at +1.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Netherlands (+10.8% per year) and Poland (+6.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 18% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per unit), while Romania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+7.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU
For the sixth consecutive year, the European Union recorded growth in purchases abroad of vehicles not mechanically propelled, which increased by 18% to X units in 2021. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +74.5% against 2013 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, non-propelled vehicle imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X units), distantly followed by the Netherlands (X units), France (X units), Italy (X units), Belgium (X units) and Spain (X units) were the main importers of vehicles not mechanically propelled, together constituting 68% of total imports. The following importers - Poland (X units), Sweden (X units), Austria (X units), Romania (X units), Denmark (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Portugal (X units) - together made up 23% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Portugal (with a CAGR of +21.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and France ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 46% of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, Belgium, Spain, Austria, Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Romania, Portugal and the Czech Republic, which together accounted for a further 45%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Portugal, with a CAGR of +19.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, growing by 19% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Austria ($X per unit) and Belgium ($X per unit), while Germany ($X per unit) and Poland ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+4.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
