The EU video game console market reduced slightly to $X in 2022, waning by -3.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption saw buoyant growth. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

After two years of growth, shipments abroad of video game consoles (not operated by means of payments) decreased by -56% to X units in 2022. In general, exports showed a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 85%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2021, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

In value terms, video game console exports reduced remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a moderate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 78%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then shrank notably in the following year.

In 2022, Germany (X units), Poland (X units), the Netherlands (X units), France (X units) and Spain (X units) represented the largest exporter of video game consoles (not operated by means of payments) in the European Union, achieving 75% of total export. It was distantly followed by Sweden (X units), constituting a 4.7% share of total exports. Slovakia (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Belgium (X units) and Italy (X units) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +20.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Poland ($X) and Spain ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 67% of total exports.

Poland, with a CAGR of +30.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2022, growing by 24% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 46%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per unit), while France ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Total imports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 67% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2021, and then fell notably in the following year.

In value terms, video game console imports contracted sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a temperate expansion. Imports by Country

Germany represented the main importer of video game consoles (not operated by means of payments) in the European Union, with the volume of imports resulting at X units, which was near 33% of total imports in 2022. France (X units) held a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the Netherlands (11%), Poland (9.4%), Spain (8.6%) and Italy (4.7%). Sweden (X units) took a minor share of total imports.

Imports into Germany increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Poland (+12.1%), the Netherlands (+5.1%), Spain (+5.0%) and Sweden (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +12.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, France (-2.3%) and Italy (-5.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+5.9 p.p.), Germany (+4.3 p.p.), the Netherlands (+3.2 p.p.) and Spain (+2.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Italy (-4.9 p.p.) and France (-6.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and Poland ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 55% of total imports.

Poland, with a CAGR of +22.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -2.1% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the import price increased by 17%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2021 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while Germany ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
