In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 6.7% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, textile wadding exports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Germany (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Poland (X tons), France (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), Italy (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Lithuania (X tons), Spain (X tons), Greece (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Estonia (X tons) represented the key exporter of wadding of textile materials and articles thereof in the European Union, comprising 91% of total export.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Estonia (with a CAGR of +42.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest textile wadding supplying countries in the European Union were the Netherlands ($X), Lithuania ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 38% of total exports. Poland, France, Hungary, Italy, Bulgaria, Spain, Greece, Belgium and Estonia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 51%.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+8.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of wadding of textile materials and articles thereof decreased by -3.2% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 12%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then reduced slightly in the following year.
In value terms, textile wadding imports amounted to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, France (X tons), distantly followed by Germany (X tons), Spain (X tons), Poland (X tons), Italy (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Romania (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) represented the key importers of wadding of textile materials and articles thereof, together comprising 71% of total imports.
