In 2022, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of water-skis, surfboards and sailboards, when their volume decreased by -5.8% to X units. Overall, exports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, water-skis and surfboards exports declined to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 37% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands was the largest exporting country with an export of about X units, which finished at 31% of total exports. Italy (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 13% share, followed by France (13%), Spain (11%), Germany (11%) and Austria (5%). Poland (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from the Netherlands increased at an average annual rate of +24.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Poland (+28.6%), Austria (+23.4%), Spain (+21.0%), Germany (+12.1%) and France (+6.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +28.6% from 2012-2022. Italy experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. The Netherlands (+22 p.p.), Spain (+6.6 p.p.), Austria (+3.3 p.p.) and Poland (+3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while France and Italy saw its share reduced by -5.2% and -24.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Italy ($X) and France ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 52% share of total exports. Germany, Spain, Austria and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +24.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2022, reducing by -3.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 9.6%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+1.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in the EU
In 2022, after ten years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of water-skis, surfboards and sailboards, when their volume decreased by -5.4% to X units. In general, imports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 62% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, water-skis and surfboards imports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 69% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of water-skis and surfboards imports in 2022 were Germany (X units), the Netherlands (X units) and France (X units), together reaching 52% of total import. Spain (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 9.7% share, followed by Italy (6.2%). Austria (X units), Sweden (X units), Poland (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Greece (X units), Finland (X units), Denmark (X units) and Belgium (X units) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +23.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest water-skis and surfboards importing markets in the European Union were Germany ($X), France ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising 51% of total imports. Spain, Austria, Italy, Poland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Greece, Finland and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 40%.
The Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +23.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -2.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 4.9%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while Finland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+3.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
