By contrast, Spain (-2.1%), Belgium (-4.9%) and France (-10.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Germany (+10 p.p.), Italy (+7.3 p.p.) and the Netherlands (+2.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belgium and France saw its share reduced by -7.5% and -13.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and Belgium ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 56% share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Italy, with a CAGR of +16.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Spain, Romania, Belgium, Poland, Germany, Portugal, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 43%.
