In value terms, pile and chenille fabric exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decline. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
The shipments of the eight major exporters of woven pile fabrics and chenille fabrics, namely Belgium, Spain, Poland, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, France and Romania, represented more than two-thirds of total export.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +36.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest pile and chenille fabric supplying countries in the European Union were Belgium ($X), Italy ($X) and Spain ($X), with a combined 53% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Germany, France, the Netherlands, Poland and Romania, which together accounted for a further 39%.
Romania, with a CAGR of +32.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 6.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a mild downturn. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in the EU
In 2021, approx. X tons of woven pile fabrics and chenille fabrics were imported in the European Union; jumping by 18% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable descent. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, pile and chenille fabric imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a perceptible reduction. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Poland (X tons) represented the main importer of woven pile fabrics and chenille fabrics, constituting 30% of total imports. Italy (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Germany (X tons), Belgium (X tons), France (X tons), Spain (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons). All these countries together took near 54% share of total imports.
Poland was also the fastest-growing in terms of the woven pile fabrics and chenille fabrics imports, with a CAGR of +3.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Lithuania (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Spain and France experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Italy (-1.4%), the Netherlands (-1.5%), Germany (-5.3%) and Belgium (-6.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+13 p.p.), Lithuania (+1.9 p.p.) and Spain (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Germany (-2.8 p.p.) and Belgium (-4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest pile and chenille fabric importing markets in the European Union were Poland ($X), Italy ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 47% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Belgium, Lithuania, Spain and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further 34%.
The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +1.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 5.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
