X-Ray Tube Market Size in the EU

In 2021, the EU x-ray tube market increased by 5.7% to $X, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. The total consumption indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +22.0% against 2018 indices. After two years of growth, overseas shipments of x-ray tubes decreased by -10.5% to X units in 2021. In general, exports recorded a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 66%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, x-ray tube exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a noticeable decrease. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2021, the Netherlands (X units) was the key exporter of x-ray tubes, generating 47% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Germany (X units), France (X units) and Italy (X units), together mixing up a 42% share of total exports. Belgium (X units) and Spain (X units) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +35.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

From 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while Spain ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, the Netherlands (X units) represented the major importer of x-ray tubes, committing 37% of total imports. Italy (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into the Netherlands decreased at an average annual rate of -11.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Poland (+20.1%), Belgium (+15.5%) and Spain (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +20.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Italy (-2.4%), Germany (-3.4%) and France (-4.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Poland (+7.8 p.p.), Belgium (+5 p.p.), Germany (+2.9 p.p.), Spain (+2.7 p.p.) and France (+2.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the Netherlands saw its share reduced by -26.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest x-ray tube importing markets in the European Union were Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 62% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, Spain, Poland and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 21%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +4.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -2.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the import price increased by 92% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2020 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
