Acetic Acid Market Size in Europe

In 2021, the Europe acetic acid market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. In value terms, acetic acid exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Belgium (X tons) and the UK (X tons) dominates exports structure, together constituting 83% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Serbia (X tons), making up a 5% share of total exports. The following exporters - the Netherlands (X tons), Russia (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Spain (X tons) - together made up 8.6% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Serbia (with a CAGR of +16.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Belgium ($X) remains the largest acetic acid supplier in Europe, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the UK ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Serbia, with a 7.3% share.

In Belgium, acetic acid exports increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+0.6% per year) and Serbia (+28.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 58% against the previous year. Export price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Serbia (+10.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2021, approx. X tons of acetic acid were imported in Europe; growing by 4.2% on 2020. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, acetic acid imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a perceptible increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Belgium was the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 46% of total imports. Germany (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 24% share, followed by the Netherlands (5.4%). Spain (X tons), Poland (X tons), Switzerland (X tons), Italy (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and France (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Portugal (with a CAGR of +36.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Belgium ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 68% of total imports. Spain, Poland, Switzerland, Italy, Portugal and France lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.

Among the main importing countries, Portugal, with a CAGR of +40.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 49% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+7.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
