From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+1.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, approx. X tons of acrylonitrile were imported in Europe; picking up by 18% against 2020. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, acrylonitrile imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of acrylonitrile imports in 2021 were Belgium (X tons), France (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons), together finishing at 58% of total import. The UK (X tons) held a 9.4% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Germany (7.2%), Italy (7%), Hungary (6.4%), Portugal (5.2%) and Spain (5.1%).

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by the UK (with a CAGR of +21.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($X), Belgium ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 55% of total imports. These countries were followed by the UK, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 42%.

The UK, with a CAGR of +20.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 38% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Spain ($X per ton) and Hungary ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) and the UK ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
