The Europe alkyd resins market dropped slightly to $X in 2022, approximately mirroring the previous year. In general, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Belgium (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 6.2% share, followed by the Czech Republic (4.9%) and Spain (4.6%). Poland (X tons), Austria (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), the UK (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and Slovenia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +21.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest alkyd resins supplying countries in Europe were Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Italy ($X), with a combined 52% share of total exports. Belgium, Austria, Spain, Belarus, Poland, the Czech Republic, the UK, Bulgaria, Portugal and Slovenia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 42%.

Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +25.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 20% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+3.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2022, imports of alkyd resins in primary forms in Europe fell remarkably to X tons, which is down by -21.3% against the year before. In general, imports showed a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 4.8%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, alkyd resins imports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 22%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the seven major importers of alkyd resins in primary forms, namely Germany, Russia, France, the Netherlands, Spain, the UK and Belgium, represented more than two-thirds of total import. The following importers - Italy (X tons), Poland (X tons), Finland (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Serbia (X tons) and Norway (X tons) - together made up 16% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by the UK (with a CAGR of +4.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 37% share of total imports. Spain, the UK, Belgium, Russia, Italy, Poland, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Serbia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 46%.

In terms of the main importing countries, the UK, with a CAGR of +4.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 16% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 23%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
