In 2021, the Europe aniline derivatives market decreased by -39.3% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, consumption recorded a perceptible contraction. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.
Aniline Derivatives Production in Europe
In value terms, aniline derivatives production rose rapidly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 17%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Europe
In 2021, shipments abroad of aniline derivatives and their salts increased by 2.9% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, recorded a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, aniline derivatives exports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 25% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Russia represented the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which reached 53% of total exports. Germany (X tons) held a 21% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Belgium (11%) and Portugal (10%). The Netherlands (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to aniline derivatives exports from Russia stood at -7.5%. At the same time, Belgium (+44.8%) and the Netherlands (+5.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belgium emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +44.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Germany (-2.6%) and Portugal (-4.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Belgium (+11 p.p.), Germany (+3.8 p.p.) and the Netherlands (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Russia (-15.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X), Germany ($X) and Belgium ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 75% share of total exports.
Belgium, with a CAGR of +13.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 3.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 9.1%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+0.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Europe
In 2021, supplies from abroad of aniline derivatives and their salts increased by 2% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 3.7% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, aniline derivatives imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 22%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Germany represented the main importer of aniline derivatives and their salts in Europe, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 45% of total imports in 2021. Spain (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Hungary (X tons), Belgium (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Italy (X tons). All these countries together took near 34% share of total imports. Ukraine (X tons), Austria (X tons), Sweden (X tons), the UK (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Switzerland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to aniline derivatives imports into Germany stood at +1.9%. At the same time, Austria (+63.2%), Belgium (+8.6%) and Hungary (+3.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Austria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +63.2% from 2012-2021. Spain and Italy experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the Netherlands (-4.6%), Sweden (-5.0%), the UK (-7.6%), Switzerland (-11.9%), Ukraine (-14.3%) and Russia (-32.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Germany (+27 p.p.), Hungary (+4.8 p.p.), Belgium (+4.7 p.p.), Spain (+4.7 p.p.), Austria (+4.3 p.p.) and Italy (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Ukraine and Russia saw its share reduced by -4.3% and -37.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported aniline derivatives and their salts in Europe, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the UK ($X), with a 9.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Austria, with an 8.2% share.
In Germany, aniline derivatives imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (+1.0% per year) and Austria (+48.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 6.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 25%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
