Antimony Market Size in Europe

The Europe antimony market contracted to $X in 2022, declining by -5.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption showed a resilient expansion. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Antimony Production in Europe

In value terms, antimony production fell to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production saw a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 198% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Europe

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of antimony, when their volume decreased by -69% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 219%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell markedly in the following year.

In value terms, antimony exports fell remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 137% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Portugal represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 37% of total exports. Poland (X tons) took a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the UK (14%), the Netherlands (13%), Russia (7.8%) and Spain (4.8%). Germany (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to antimony exports from Portugal stood at +14.5%. At the same time, Poland (+27.9%) and the UK (+4.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +27.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the Netherlands (-1.9%), Russia (-4.7%), Spain (-5.6%) and Germany (-6.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Portugal, Poland and the UK increased by +24, +14 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, the largest antimony supplying countries in Europe were the UK ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Poland ($X), with a combined 61% share of total exports. Spain, Russia, Germany and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.

Spain, with a CAGR of +12.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -6.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+19.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2022, approx. X tons of antimony were imported in Europe; declining by -27% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, antimony imports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 124% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

Imports by Country

France was the major importer of antimony in Europe, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 52% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons) and Spain (X tons), together mixing up a 36% share of total imports. Austria (X tons), Germany (X tons) and the UK (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Austria (with a CAGR of +6.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest antimony importing markets in Europe were France ($X), Belgium ($X) and Spain ($X), with a combined 87% share of total imports. Austria, the UK and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 7.3%.

In terms of the main importing countries, the UK, with a CAGR of +8.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 33% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 70%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
