The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +149.4% against 2012 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, antisera exports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by Spain (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Austria (X tons), the UK (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Switzerland (X tons) and France (X tons) represented the largest exporters of antisera and other blood fractions, together making up 85% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +40.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Switzerland ($X), Germany ($X) and Belgium ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 53% of total exports. The Netherlands, Austria, the UK, France and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.
Among the main exporting countries, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +24.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, declining by -13.3% against the previous year. Export price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, antisera export price increased by +55.0% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (-0.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Antisera Imports
Imports in Europe
For the sixth year in a row, Europe recorded growth in overseas purchases of antisera and other blood fractions, which increased by 79% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a strong increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, antisera imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Germany was the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which accounted for 29% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Austria (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), France (X tons) and Italy (X tons), together mixing up a 39% share of total imports. Ireland (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Spain (X tons), Switzerland (X tons), Russia (X tons), the UK (X tons), Denmark (X tons) and Greece (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
Imports into Germany increased at an average annual rate of +19.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Ireland (+55.0%), the Netherlands (+32.6%), France (+16.9%), Austria (+16.6%), Belgium (+13.4%), Italy (+9.7%), Greece (+9.2%), the UK (+6.8%), Denmark (+6.3%), Spain (+4.3%), Switzerland (+4.0%) and Russia (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ireland emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +55.0% from 2012-2021. While the share of Germany (+10 p.p.), the Netherlands (+8.9 p.p.), Ireland (+4.2 p.p.), Austria (+3.1 p.p.) and France (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Italy (-1.8 p.p.), Denmark (-1.9 p.p.), the UK (-2.1 p.p.), Spain (-3.3 p.p.), Switzerland (-3.4 p.p.) and Russia (-3.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest antisera importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and Switzerland ($X), with a combined 48% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, France, Italy, the UK, Austria, Spain, Ireland, Russia, Denmark and Greece, which together accounted for a further 42%.
Ireland, with a CAGR of +45.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -34.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 9.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
