In 2022, after three years of decline, there was growth in the Europe artificial guts market, when its value increased by 4.5% to $X. The total consumption indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.
Artificial Guts Production in Europe
In value terms, artificial guts production expanded to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +3.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the production volume increased by 33%. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Europe
In 2022, the amount of artificial guts (sausage skins) exported in Europe expanded significantly to X tons, with an increase of 6.3% on the previous year. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 10% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, artificial guts exports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
The biggest shipments were from the Czech Republic (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Germany (X tons), together reaching 70% of total export. Serbia (X tons) took a 7.6% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by France (6.2%), Belgium (5.8%) and Poland (4.7%).
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for France (with a CAGR of +52.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest artificial guts supplying countries in Europe were the Czech Republic ($X), Germany ($X) and Spain ($X), with a combined 72% share of total exports. Serbia, France, Belgium and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.
France, with a CAGR of +49.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 2.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 9.1%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Serbia (+0.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Artificial Guts Imports
Imports in Europe
In 2022, overseas purchases of artificial guts (sausage skins) decreased by -1.1% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 9.1%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, artificial guts imports totaled $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 8.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The Czech Republic represented the main importer of artificial guts (sausage skins) in Europe, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was near 30% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), Spain (X tons), Germany (X tons), Italy (X tons), France (X tons) and Poland (X tons), together making up a 43% share of total imports. The following importers - Romania (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Ukraine (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) - together made up 12% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to artificial guts imports into the Czech Republic stood at +1.9%. At the same time, Romania (+8.7%), Belarus (+6.1%), Belgium (+4.4%), Russia (+3.3%), Poland (+2.1%) and France (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +8.7% from 2012-2022. Italy, Ukraine and Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Spain (-2.2%) and Austria (-3.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Czech Republic (+3.9 p.p.), Russia (+2.7 p.p.) and Romania (+2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Spain (-2.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported artificial guts (sausage skins) in Europe, comprising 29% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with an 8.7% share.
In the Czech Republic, artificial guts imports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (+1.5% per year) and Germany (-2.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 7.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
