The Europe baby clothes market fell slightly to $X in 2022, reducing by -2.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption saw a slight descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 5.2%. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Baby clothes exports rose rapidly to X tons in 2022, with an increase of 11% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 24%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, baby clothes exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 17%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Spain (X tons) was the major exporter of babies clothing and accessories (not knitted or crocheted), constituting 34% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), Poland (X tons), France (X tons) and Germany (X tons), together achieving a 43% share of total exports. Italy (X tons), the UK (X tons), Portugal (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Russia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to baby clothes exports from Spain stood at +14.2%. At the same time, Poland (+17.4%), Russia (+11.8%) and the Czech Republic (+5.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +17.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Germany (-1.0%), France (-2.0%), Portugal (-2.9%), Italy (-7.6%), the Netherlands (-8.6%) and the UK (-11.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Spain (+25 p.p.) and Poland (+11 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while France, Italy, the UK and the Netherlands saw its share reduced by -1.6%, -3.7%, -7.4% and -18.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Spain ($X) remains the largest baby clothes supplier in Europe, comprising 33% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 9.7% share.

In Spain, baby clothes exports increased at an average annual rate of +11.3% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+18.4% per year) and France (-4.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -4.6% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 31% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+14.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2022, purchases abroad of babies clothing and accessories (not knitted or crocheted) increased by 4% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 5.4% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, baby clothes imports amounted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 8.6%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

France (X tons), Spain (X tons), the UK (X tons), Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Italy (X tons) represented roughly 74% of total imports in 2022. Russia (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and Romania (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +17.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($X), Spain ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 44% of total imports. The UK, Poland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Russia, Belgium and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 40%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +17.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 9.6% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Italy ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton), while the UK ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
