Ball Market Size in Europe
In 2022, the Europe ball market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year declining trend. Overall, consumption recorded a modest expansion. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.
Ball Production in Europe
In value terms, ball production surged to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 116% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.
Ball Exports
Exports in Europe
In 2022, shipments abroad of balls increased by 22% to X units, rising for the third year in a row after three years of decline. Total exports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +148.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 48%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, ball exports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +54.3% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands represented the major exporting country with an export of around X units, which accounted for 40% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Germany (X units), France (X units), Italy (X units) and Spain (X units), together committing a 39% share of total exports. Belgium (X units), the UK (X units), Austria (X units), Denmark (X units), Poland (X units) and Sweden (X units) held a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to ball exports from the Netherlands stood at +14.2%. At the same time, Poland (+20.5%), Spain (+6.0%), the UK (+2.2%), Italy (+2.2%) and Germany (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +20.5% from 2012-2022. Sweden and Denmark experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Austria (-1.5%), France (-2.4%) and Belgium (-7.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+25 p.p.) and Poland (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Austria, Germany, France and Belgium saw its share reduced by -1.8%, -5.3%, -7.3% and -8.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest ball supplying countries in Europe were Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Italy ($X), with a combined 51% share of total exports. France, Spain, Belgium, the UK, Denmark, Poland, Austria and Sweden lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 43%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +17.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, shrinking by -11.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 42%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+10.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ball Imports
Imports in Europe
In 2022, ball imports in Europe skyrocketed to X units, increasing by 15% against the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +108.1% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, ball imports soared to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the three major importers of balls, namely the Netherlands, France and Germany, represented more than half of total import. The UK (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 7.8% share, followed by Spain (6.8%), Italy (5%) and Russia (4.8%). Austria (X units), Sweden (X units), Poland (X units), Ireland (X units), Denmark (X units) and Switzerland (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 7.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 46%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
