Base Station Market Size in Europe

In 2021, the Europe base station market increased by 5.6% to $X, rising for the fourth consecutive year after two years of decline. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the market value increased by 9.4% against the previous year. The level of consumption peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, base station production fell dramatically to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production continues to indicate a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 6.9% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of base stations decreased by -22.1% to X tons, falling for the seventh year in a row after three years of growth. In general, exports recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, base station exports fell markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Hungary represented the main exporter of base stations in Europe, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near 42% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), the UK (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Sweden (X tons), together comprising a 43% share of total exports. The following exporters - Denmark (X tons) and France (X tons) - together made up 5.6% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to base station exports from Hungary stood at -4.1%. At the same time, Italy (+11.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Italy emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +11.2% from 2012-2021. Denmark experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the UK (-3.1%), France (-12.5%), Sweden (-22.1%) and the Netherlands (-23.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Hungary (+29 p.p.), the UK (+8.3 p.p.), Italy (+6.1 p.p.) and Denmark (+2.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Sweden (-5.9 p.p.) and the Netherlands (-27 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Hungary ($X) remains the largest base station supplier in Europe, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 6.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Sweden, with a 4.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Hungary stood at +4.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: France (-6.5% per year) and Sweden (-25.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -3.2% against the previous year. Export price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, base station export price increased by +83.7% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 63%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of base stations were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2014, thus ending a six-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The purchases of the three major importers of base stations, namely Russia, the Netherlands and Italy, represented more than two-thirds of total import. The following importers - Denmark (X tons), Germany (X tons), Austria (X tons), the UK (X tons), Finland (X tons), France (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) - together made up 15% of total imports.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported base stations in Europe, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with a 9.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 7% share.

In Russia, base station imports declined by an average annual rate of -4.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+5.1% per year) and Germany (-6.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Denmark ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
