Basic Dye Market Size in Europe

The Europe basic dye market dropped to $X in 2021, falling by -3.7% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the market value increased by 9.6%. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Basic Dye Production in Europe

In value terms, basic dye production dropped modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -13.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 31%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Basic Dye Exports

Exports in Europe

After three years of decline, overseas shipments of basic dyes and preparations based thereon increased by 4.2% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 7.7% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, basic dye exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Spain represented the main exporter of basic dyes and preparations based thereon in Europe, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 42% of total exports in 2021. Italy (X tons) held a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Netherlands (13%), the UK (9.4%) and Germany (7.9%). The following exporters - Poland (X tons) and Finland (X tons) - each amounted to a 5.8% share of total exports.

Exports from Spain increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Netherlands (+35.9%), Poland (+26.3%), Finland (+12.2%) and Italy (+2.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +35.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the UK (-3.6%) and Germany (-14.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+12 p.p.), Spain (+10 p.p.), Italy (+3.3 p.p.), Poland (+2.9 p.p.) and Finland (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the UK and Germany saw its share reduced by -3.2% and -23.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the largest basic dye supplying countries in Europe were Spain ($X), the UK ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 54% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Italy, Poland and Finland, which together accounted for a further 28%.

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +30.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, rising by 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+5.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Basic Dye Imports

Imports in Europe

Basic dye imports fell to X tons in 2021, shrinking by -5.9% against 2020. In general, imports recorded a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 7.6%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, basic dye imports stood at $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 14%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the nine major importers of basic dyes and preparations based thereon, namely the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, Russia, Italy, Spain, Poland, France and Sweden, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Belgium (X tons), Switzerland (X tons), Finland (X tons) and Austria (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +16.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest basic dye importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and France ($X), together accounting for 35% of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, the UK, Belgium, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Poland, Finland and Austria, which together accounted for a further 51%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Russia, with a CAGR of +14.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 6.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+13.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
