In 2022, the average yield of blueberries and cranberries in Europe rose modestly to X tons per ha, with an increase of 3.1% on 2021. In general, the yield continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the yield increased by 10%. Over the period under review, the blueberry and cranberry yield reached the peak level at X tons per ha in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the yield stood at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

Exports in Europe
For the eleventh year in a row, Europe recorded growth in shipments abroad of blueberries and cranberries, which increased by 4.1% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 27%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, blueberry and cranberry exports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell significantly in the following year.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the key exporters of blueberries and cranberries in 2022, accounting for approx. 34% and 33% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Poland (X tons), generating a 10% share of total exports. Germany (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Portugal (X tons), France (X tons), Serbia (X tons) and Romania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +43.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest blueberry and cranberry supplying countries in Europe were the Netherlands ($X), Spain ($X) and Poland ($X), together accounting for 80% of total exports. Germany, Portugal, France, Serbia, Romania and Sweden lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 13%.
Serbia, with a CAGR of +45.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -19.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 9%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Serbia (+6.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Blueberry And Cranberry Imports
Imports in Europe
In 2022, the amount of blueberries and cranberries imported in Europe rose remarkably to X tons, increasing by 10% on 2021 figures. Overall, imports recorded a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
In value terms, blueberry and cranberry imports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 35%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons), distantly followed by Germany (X tons), the UK (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Poland (X tons) represented the major importers of blueberries and cranberries, together constituting 73% of total imports. France (X tons), Italy (X tons), Russia (X tons), Austria (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Switzerland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Spain (with a CAGR of +39.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and the UK ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 58% share of total imports. Spain, Poland, France, Italy, Russia, Switzerland, Austria and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +38.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -15.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a noticeable reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
