The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 15%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2021, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Europe

In 2021, shipments abroad of bromides and bromide oxides, iodides and iodide oxides increased by 5.7% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, bromides, iodides and oxids thereof exports reached $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 25% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

The Netherlands was the largest exporter of bromides and bromide oxides, iodides and iodide oxides in Europe, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 43% of total exports in 2021. Germany (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 16% share, followed by Belgium (15%), Russia (11%) and the UK (5.4%). The following exporters - Spain (X tons) and Poland (X tons) - each reached a 3.6% share of total exports.

Exports from the Netherlands increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Poland (+42.8%), Russia (+36.8%) and the UK (+6.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +42.8% from 2012-2021. Germany and Belgium experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Spain (-5.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Russia, the UK and Poland increased by +11, +1.7 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest bromides, iodides and oxids thereof supplying countries in Europe were Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Belgium ($X), together accounting for 62% of total exports. These countries were followed by the UK, Russia, Poland and Spain, which together accounted for a further 22%.

Russia, with a CAGR of +27.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 8.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+7.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2021, imports of bromides and bromide oxides, iodides and iodide oxides in Europe reduced to X tons, falling by -7.9% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 9.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, bromides, iodides and oxids thereof imports totaled $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of bromides, iodides and oxids thereof imports in 2021 were Germany (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Norway (X tons), together finishing at 65% of total import. The UK (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by France (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 13% share of total imports. Italy (X tons), Poland (X tons), Russia (X tons), Spain (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Romania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +18.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 53% of total imports. These countries were followed by Norway, France, the UK, Italy, Spain, Russia, Poland, Romania and Austria, which together accounted for a further 34%.

Romania, with a CAGR of +15.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
