The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the production volume increased by 7.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

For the third year in a row, Europe recorded growth in shipments abroad of brooms, brushes, and mops, which increased by 2.2% to X units in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 11%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, broom, brush, and mop exports shrank to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +50.6% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 17%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Germany (X units) represented the main exporter of brooms, brushes, and mops, creating 37% of total exports. Italy (X units) took a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Czech Republic (6.4%), Switzerland (6.1%) and the Netherlands (5.3%). Poland (X units), Hungary (X units), Spain (X units), France (X units), Ireland (X units), Belgium (X units), Sweden (X units) and Austria (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to broom, brush, and mop exports from Germany stood at +1.3%. At the same time, Hungary (+20.6%), Austria (+15.0%), Spain (+8.9%), the Netherlands (+7.5%), Poland (+5.3%), the Czech Republic (+1.9%) and Sweden (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +20.6% from 2012-2022. France, Switzerland and Ireland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Italy (-1.6%) and Belgium (-2.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria and Spain increased by +2.8, +2.2, +1.6 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest broom, brush, and mop supplier in Europe, comprising 32% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with an 8.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with a 6.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Germany totaled +3.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+11.0% per year) and Italy (+2.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, shrinking by -8.3% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.8%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 9.4% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per unit), while Italy ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+6.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Brooms, Brushes, And Mops

Imports in Europe

In 2022, supplies from abroad of brooms, brushes, and mops decreased by -1.9% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 16%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, broom, brush, and mop imports dropped slightly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +59.2% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Germany (X units), distantly followed by Russia (X units), the UK (X units), France (X units), Italy (X units), Poland (X units), the Netherlands (X units) and Spain (X units) represented the major importers of brooms, brushes, and mops, together achieving 70% of total imports. Hungary (X units), Belgium (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Austria (X units) and Sweden (X units) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +19.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and the UK ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 40% of total imports. The Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Italy, Belgium, Spain, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Sweden lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 42%.

Hungary, with a CAGR of +14.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 7.2%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
