In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of butter and dairy spreads, when their volume decreased by -6.8% to X tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, butter and dairy spreads exports soared to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +47.1% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons) and Ireland (X tons) represented the major exporters of butter and dairy spreads in Europe, together finishing at approx. 42% of total exports. Germany (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 10% share, followed by Belgium (10%), Belarus (7.2%), France (7.2%), Poland (6.3%) and Denmark (4.6%).

In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 36% against the previous year. Export price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, butter and dairy spreads export price increased by +57.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 47% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

The following importers - Italy (X tons), Spain (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Poland (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Romania (X tons) - together made up 14% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +20.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 29% against the previous year. Import price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, butter and dairy spreads import price increased by +47.1% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 48%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
