Cadmium Market Size in Europe
In 2022, the Europe cadmium market increased by 4.6% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a slight downturn. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Cadmium Production in Europe
In value terms, cadmium production fell modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production recorded a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 8.4% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Europe
In 2022, the amount of cadmium and articles thereof exported in Europe stood at X tons, picking up by 2.6% against 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 26%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cadmium exports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 39%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2022, France (X tons), Russia (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons), Norway (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) was the largest exporter of cadmium and articles thereof in Europe, comprising 99% of total export.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Norway (with a CAGR of +3.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest cadmium supplying countries in Europe were Belgium ($X), France ($X) and Russia ($X), with a combined 51% share of total exports. The Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Norway and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 46%.
Norway, with a CAGR of +5.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, falling by -8.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 53%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+2.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cadmium Imports
Imports in Europe
Cadmium imports surged to X tons in 2022, rising by 23% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 57%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cadmium imports dropped modestly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Belgium represented the main importer of cadmium and articles thereof in Europe, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 48% of total imports in 2022. Sweden (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 28% share, followed by the Netherlands (8.8%) and Russia (5.5%). The UK (X tons), France (X tons) and Spain (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +37.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Belgium ($X), Sweden ($X) and the UK ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 67% of total imports. The Netherlands, France, Russia and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.
The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +32.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -19.7% against the previous year. Import price indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 39%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+11.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
