In 2021, shipments abroad of calcined and sintered dolomite was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, saw a noticeable decrease. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, calcined and sintered dolomite exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a perceptible decline. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Belgium represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which accounted for 56% of total exports. The UK (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Italy (X tons) and Spain (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 38% share of total exports. Germany (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to calcined and sintered dolomite exports from Belgium stood at -8.1%. At the same time, Italy (+10.0%), Spain (+8.3%) and the UK (+3.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Italy emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +10.0% from 2012-2021. Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of the UK (+13 p.p.), Italy (+6.5 p.p.) and Spain (+3.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Belgium (-21 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Belgium ($X) remains the largest calcined and sintered dolomite supplier in Europe, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the UK ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with a 7.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Belgium stood at -4.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the UK (+4.5% per year) and Italy (-2.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 5.2% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 19% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+3.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Calcined And Sintered Dolomite
Imports in Europe
After three years of decline, overseas purchases of calcined and sintered dolomite increased by 2.3% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a perceptible descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, calcined and sintered dolomite imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable slump. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons), distantly followed by France (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Finland (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the major importers of calcined and sintered dolomite, together creating 85% of total imports. Spain (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Slovenia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Romania (with a CAGR of +24.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), France ($X) and Sweden ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 73% of total imports. Finland, Spain, Germany, Romania and Slovenia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +24.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 19% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while Slovenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+4.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
