In value terms, carbon brush exports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X tons), Austria (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Italy (X tons) was the main exporter of carbon brushes in Europe, making up 65% of total export. The UK (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by France (X tons). All these countries together held near 11% share of total exports. The Netherlands (X tons), Russia (X tons), Denmark (X tons), Romania (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Spain (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +27.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest carbon brush supplier in Europe, comprising 31% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Austria ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Germany amounted to -2.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Austria (-3.1% per year) and Hungary (+14.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 5.6% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 13%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+7.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Carbon Brush Imports

Imports in Europe

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of carbon brushes, when their volume increased by 12% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 19%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, carbon brush imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the twelve major importers of carbon brushes, namely Germany, France, Italy, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Austria, Poland, Belgium, Romania, Spain, Russia and the Netherlands, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Slovenia (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Spain (with a CAGR of +12.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest carbon brush importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), together accounting for 33% of total imports. Austria, France, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, Russia, Slovenia and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 44%.

In terms of the main importing countries, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +5.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 3.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 14%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
