Exports by Country
Ireland represented the main exporter of casein and caseinates in Europe, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 47% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by France (X tons), Ukraine (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Germany (X tons), together committing a 38% share of total exports. The following exporters - Latvia (X tons) and Austria (X tons) - together made up 7.7% of total exports.

At the same time, Latvia (+199.0%), Austria (+54.0%), the Netherlands (+8.5%) and Ukraine (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Latvia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +199.0% from 2012-2022. France experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Germany (-1.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Ireland (+7.4 p.p.), Latvia (+4.2 p.p.), Austria (+3.4 p.p.) and the Netherlands (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Germany (-2.1 p.p.) and France (-6.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Ireland ($X) emerged as the largest casein and caseinates supplier in Europe, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 6.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Ireland amounted to +7.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+2.2% per year) and Germany (+2.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 34% against the previous year. Export price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, casein and caseinates export price increased by +90.4% against 2016 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Total imports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +85.3% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Poland (X tons), Germany (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Spain (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Italy (X tons) represented roughly 82% of total imports in 2022. The UK (X tons) and France (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of +16.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest casein and caseinates importing markets in Europe were Poland ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), with a combined 55% share of total imports. Spain, Russia, Italy, the UK and France lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.
Among the main importing countries, Russia, with a CAGR of +17.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, growing by 25% against the previous year. Import price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, casein and caseinates import price increased by +91.7% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 31%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
