Ceramic Sanitary Ware Market Size in Europe

The total production indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +28.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the production volume increased by 45%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.

Exports in Europe
For the fourth year in a row, Europe recorded decline in shipments abroad of ceramic sinks, baths, water closet pans and similar sanitary fixtures, which decreased by -6% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, ceramic sanitary ware exports fell to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
The biggest shipments were from Italy (X units), Poland (X units) and Russia (X units), together accounting for 49% of total export. Portugal (X units) held a 7.5% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Ukraine (6.4%), Germany (6.4%) and France (6%). The following exporters - Spain (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Belgium (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), the UK (X units) and Austria (X units) - together made up 17% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +16.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the largest ceramic sanitary ware supplier in Europe, comprising 30% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with an 11% share.
In Italy, ceramic sanitary ware exports increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Germany (+3.4% per year) and Poland (-2.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, rising by 4.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 116% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while Ukraine ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+18.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe
In 2022, the amount of ceramic sinks, baths, water closet pans and similar sanitary fixtures imported in Europe fell to X units, shrinking by -2.1% against 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 20%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, ceramic sanitary ware imports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Spain (X units) was the main importer of ceramic sinks, baths, water closet pans and similar sanitary fixtures, achieving 40% of total imports. Russia (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 20% share, followed by Portugal (9.6%). The following importers - France (X units), Hungary (X units), Italy (X units), Poland (X units), Slovenia (X units) and Albania (X units) - together made up 17% of total imports.
Imports into Spain increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Portugal (+12.1%) and Hungary (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Portugal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +12.1% from 2012-2022. Albania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Slovenia (-1.9%), Russia (-2.2%), Poland (-19.9%), Italy (-20.5%) and France (-23.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Spain (+34 p.p.), Russia (+15 p.p.), Portugal (+8.9 p.p.), Hungary (+2.6 p.p.), Slovenia (+1.7 p.p.) and Albania (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Poland, Italy and France saw its share reduced by -2%, -3.2% and -8.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Spain ($X), Russia ($X) and Portugal ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 75% of total imports.
Portugal, with a CAGR of +9.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 38%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then reduced modestly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($X per unit), while Italy ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
