Cereal Germ Market Size in Europe

The Europe cereal germ market reduced to $X in 2021, with a decrease of -10.6% against the previous year. In general, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cereal germ production dropped to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 12%. In 2021, overseas shipments of cereal germ increased by 19% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, cereal germ exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +73.1% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The biggest shipments were from France (X tons), Austria (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Russia (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Spain (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), Germany (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Serbia (X tons), together finishing at 97% of total export.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +46.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest cereal germ supplying countries in Europe were Austria ($X), France ($X) and Hungary ($X), together accounting for 42% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Russia, Bulgaria, Belgium, Spain, Germany, Slovakia, Romania and Serbia, which together accounted for a further 54%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Belgium, with a CAGR of +37.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+3.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2021, purchases abroad of cereal germ increased by 6.1% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, recorded a slight decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cereal germ imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a pronounced downturn. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Belgium (X tons) and Italy (X tons) represented the main importers of cereal germ in 2021, amounting to near 35% and 32% of total imports, respectively. Hungary (X tons) held a 6.2% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Germany (4.9%). France (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Austria (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Romania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +38.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest cereal germ importing markets in Europe were Belgium ($X), Italy ($X) and Hungary ($X), with a combined 71% share of total imports. Germany, France, the Netherlands, Austria, Bulgaria, Romania and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +22.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Germany ($X per ton) and Romania ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) and Bulgaria ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+2.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
