After four years of growth, the Europe non-wheat cereal pellets market decreased by -4% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption, however, showed a mild expansion. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

Exports in Europe
Non-wheat cereal pellets exports fell modestly to X tons in 2021, remaining stable against the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 42% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-wheat cereal pellets exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +48.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Ireland (X tons) and Germany (X tons) represented roughly 51% of total exports in 2021. The Netherlands (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Belgium (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Sweden (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 32% share of total exports. France (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Sweden (with a CAGR of +177.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest non-wheat cereal pellets supplying countries in Europe were Ireland ($X), Spain ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), with a combined 60% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Germany, Belgium, Sweden and France, which together accounted for a further 23%.
Among the main exporting countries, Sweden, with a CAGR of +155.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 23% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+14.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe
In 2021, supplies from abroad of cereal pellets (excluding wheat) decreased by -16.8% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after five years of growth. In general, imports, however, enjoyed mild growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-wheat cereal pellets imports expanded modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw tangible growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 63% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons) represented the largest importer of cereal pellets (excluding wheat), mixing up 40% of total imports. Spain (X tons) took a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the UK (11%), Slovakia (6%), Portugal (5.8%), Italy (5.8%), Romania (4.9%) and the Czech Republic (4.6%). Belgium (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into the Netherlands increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the UK (+19.4%), Slovakia (+11.8%), Italy (+9.3%), the Czech Republic (+5.4%) and Portugal (+4.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the UK emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +19.4% from 2012-2021. Spain and Romania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belgium (-11.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Netherlands (+17 p.p.), the UK (+8.4 p.p.), Slovakia (+3.5 p.p.) and Italy (+2.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Spain (-1.6 p.p.) and Belgium (-7.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest non-wheat cereal pellets importing markets in Europe were the Netherlands ($X), the UK ($X) and Spain ($X), with a combined 55% share of total imports.
The UK, with a CAGR of +18.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 23% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
