The Netherlands (X tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a 15% share.
In Italy, citrus fruits not elsewhere classified production declined by an average annual rate of -3.7% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Greece (+25.0% per year) and the Netherlands (+0.4% per year).
In 2022, the average yield of citrus fruits not elsewhere classified in Europe amounted to X tons per ha, growing by 2.9% compared with 2021. In general, the yield, however, showed a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the yield remained at a lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, approx. X ha of citrus fruits not elsewhere classified were harvested in Europe; shrinking by -10% against 2021 figures. Overall, the harvested area, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the harvested area increased by 25% against the previous year. As a result, the harvested area reached the peak level of X ha, and then shrank in the following year.

In 2022, overseas shipments of citrus fruits not elsewhere classified decreased by -15% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after five years of growth. Overall, exports, however, posted slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 38%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, citrus fruits not elsewhere classified exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Greece (X tons), distantly followed by Spain (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Germany (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main exporters of citrus fruits not elsewhere classified, together mixing up 91% of total exports. The following exporters - Italy (X tons) and Latvia (X tons) - each amounted to a 3.8% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Greece (with a CAGR of +29.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Spain ($X) and Greece ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 75% of total exports.
Greece, with a CAGR of +25.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, falling by -12.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 32%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, overseas purchases of citrus fruits not elsewhere classified decreased by -7.3% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. Overall, imports, however, posted tangible growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 30%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, citrus fruits not elsewhere classified imports dropped to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the UK (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) were the main importers of citrus fruits not elsewhere classified in Europe, together committing 37% of total imports. The Netherlands (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Germany (10%), Russia (9%), France (8.3%) and the Czech Republic (5.7%).
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +75.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest citrus fruits not elsewhere classified importing markets in Europe were the UK ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 43% share of total imports. France, Hungary, Russia and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.
Hungary, with a CAGR of +58.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -2.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 12%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+1.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
