Helicopter Market Size in Europe

The Europe helicopter market dropped rapidly to $X in 2022, waning by -37.2% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a noticeable contraction. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

Helicopter Production in Europe

In value terms, helicopter production fell modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production continues to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 4.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Europe

For the third year in a row, Europe recorded growth in shipments abroad of civil helicopters, which increased by 208% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed significant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, helicopter exports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 30%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Poland prevails in exports structure, reaching X units, which was near 83% of total exports in 2022. The following exporters - Germany (X units), Estonia (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) - together made up 7.5% of total exports.

Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +62.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Estonia (+100.7%), the Czech Republic (+39.5%) and Germany (+11.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Estonia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +100.7% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Poland and Estonia increased by +74 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest helicopter supplier in Europe, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with an 8.7% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 2.6% share.

In Germany, helicopter exports expanded at an average annual rate of +9.0% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (-0.3% per year) and the Czech Republic (+5.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -71.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a sharp reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the export price increased by 17% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while Estonia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (-2.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Helicopter Imports

Imports in Europe

In 2022, purchases abroad of civil helicopters increased by 776% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports showed a buoyant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, helicopter imports declined to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +9.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 93% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

North Macedonia dominates imports structure, amounting to X units, which was approx. 75% of total imports in 2022. The Netherlands (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Croatia (X units). All these countries together took approx. 15% share of total imports. The following importers - Estonia (X units) and Spain (X units) - together made up 5.1% of total imports.

North Macedonia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the civil helicopters imports, with a CAGR of +214.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Croatia (+135.6%), Spain (+49.0%) and Estonia (+31.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the Netherlands (-9.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of North Macedonia (+75 p.p.), Croatia (+5.2 p.p.), Estonia (+3.4 p.p.) and Spain (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of the Netherlands (-87.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the largest helicopter importing markets in Europe were the Netherlands ($X), Spain ($X) and Croatia ($X), with a combined 26% share of total imports.

Croatia, with a CAGR of +157.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -90.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 2,400%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per unit), while North Macedonia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+14.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
