Clasp Knife Market Size in Europe

In 2022, the Europe clasp knife market increased by 127% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. Overall, consumption showed buoyant growth. As a result, consumption reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Clasp Knife Production in Europe

In value terms, clasp knife production fell to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the production volume increased by 23%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of clasp knives, when their volume decreased by -5.9% to X units. Total exports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, clasp knife exports dropped to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +49.1% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 32% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

Germany (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) were the main exporters of clasp knives in 2022, finishing at near 22% and 17% of total exports, respectively. France (X units) held an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Belgium (9.2%), Switzerland (7%), the UK (5.2%), Austria (4.8%) and Poland (4.7%).

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +11.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Switzerland ($X) and France ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 68% share of total exports. The Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Austria and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.

Among the main exporting countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +14.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, waning by -6% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 27%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per unit), while the UK ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+14.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +69.4% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +46.4% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

In 2022, Russia (X units) and Germany (X units) represented the largest importers of clasp knives in Europe, together amounting to near 40% of total imports. France (X units) took an 8.3% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the Netherlands (7.8%), Belgium (6%), Poland (5.6%) and the UK (4.6%). Spain (X units), Italy (X units), Austria (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Romania (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported clasp knives in Europe, comprising 29% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 9% share.

In Germany, clasp knife imports increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+3.1% per year) and the Netherlands (+12.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -6.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 7.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+8.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
