Concentrated Apple Juice Market Size in Europe

The Europe concentrated apple juice market dropped to $X in 2021, declining by -5.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption saw a perceptible reduction. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated apple juice production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production saw a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 27%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Europe

In 2021, concentrated apple juice exports in Europe rose markedly to X tons, increasing by 8.2% against the year before. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 26%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, concentrated apple juice exports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Poland represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for 39% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Ukraine (X tons), Austria (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Moldova (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons), together generating a 41% share of total exports. The following exporters - Germany (X tons), Italy (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Serbia (X tons) - together made up 14% of total exports.

Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of concentrated apple juice. At the same time, Moldova (+8.6%), Serbia (+6.5%) and the Netherlands (+4.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Moldova emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +8.6% from 2012-2021. Austria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Hungary (-1.6%), Ukraine (-2.5%), Spain (-5.4%), Italy (-6.7%) and Germany (-8.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Moldova (+4.1 p.p.), Poland (+4 p.p.) and the Netherlands (+2.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Spain (-1.6 p.p.), Italy (-2.8 p.p.) and Germany (-4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest concentrated apple juice supplier in Europe, comprising 38% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Austria ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Ukraine, with a 9.8% share.

In Poland, concentrated apple juice exports contracted by an average annual rate of -3.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Austria (-4.1% per year) and Ukraine (-6.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 1.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Moldova ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (-0.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Europe

In 2021, overseas purchases of concentrated apple juice decreased by -2.2% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated apple juice imports expanded slightly to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 26%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by Austria (X tons), the UK (X tons), Russia (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), France (X tons) and Poland (X tons) represented the major importers of concentrated apple juice, together committing 80% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by France (with a CAGR of +1.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported concentrated apple juice in Europe, comprising 24% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the UK ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Austria, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany totaled -10.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (-4.7% per year) and Austria (-6.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, growing by 5.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 14%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in the Netherlands ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton), while France ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
