In 2021, the Europe totaliser market increased by 84% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, consumption enjoyed buoyant growth. As a result, consumption reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Totaliser Production in Europe
In value terms, totaliser production reached $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 16%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of continuous and discontinuous totalisers increased by 10% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 100%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, totaliser exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
The UK was the main exporting country with an export of about X units, which resulted at 39% of total exports. The Netherlands (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Italy (X units), Denmark (X units), Germany (X units) and Spain (X units). All these countries together held approx. 48% share of total exports. Sweden (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from the UK increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Netherlands (+29.1%), Italy (+19.7%), Spain (+19.3%) and Denmark (+6.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +29.1% from 2012-2021. Sweden experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Germany (-3.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Netherlands (+13 p.p.), Italy (+6.3 p.p.) and Spain (+2.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Denmark (-2.6 p.p.), Sweden (-3.9 p.p.) and Germany (-10.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X), the UK ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 63% share of total exports.
In terms of the main exporting countries, the UK, with a CAGR of +32.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 41%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the UK ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+22.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Europe
In 2021, imports of continuous and discontinuous totalisers in Europe soared to X units, jumping by 28% compared with the previous year. Overall, imports recorded a resilient increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, totaliser imports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +67.0% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 20%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Spain (X units), the Netherlands (X units), the UK (X units) and Belgium (X units) represented roughly 79% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Italy (X units), creating a 4.9% share of total imports. Denmark (X units) and France (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +41.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest totaliser importing markets in Europe were Spain ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and the UK ($X), together comprising 48% of total imports.
Spain, with a CAGR of +15.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, reducing by -12.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 9.9% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per unit), while Belgium ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+17.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
