Market Size for Copper Bars, Rods and Profiles in Europe

In 2022, the Europe market for copper bars, rods and profiles increased by 7.8% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Production of Copper Bars, Rods and Profiles in Europe

In value terms, copper bar, rod and profile production expanded markedly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the production volume increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, the amount of copper bars, rods and profiles exported in Europe contracted to X tons, waning by -6.5% on 2021 figures. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, copper bar, rod and profile exports reached $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +56.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons) and Italy (X tons) represented roughly 54% of total exports in 2022. France (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Bulgaria (X tons) and Spain (X tons). All these countries together held near 21% share of total exports. The following exporters - Poland (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Greece (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) - together made up 16% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +8.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest copper bar, rod and profile supplying countries in Europe were Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 64% share of total exports. Bulgaria, Poland, Spain, Belgium, Greece, Portugal, Sweden and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.

Among the main exporting countries, Portugal, with a CAGR of +12.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 7.8% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 33%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per ton), while Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Greece (+4.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

Copper bar, rod and profile imports reduced slightly to X tons in 2022, falling by -2.2% on 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 20%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

In value terms, copper bar, rod and profile imports stood at $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +60.1% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 56%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tons) and Italy (X tons) represented roughly 34% of total imports in 2022. The UK (X tons) took a 7.7% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by France (7%), Spain (6.5%), the Netherlands (5.9%), Poland (5.3%) and the Czech Republic (4.8%). Switzerland (X tons), Denmark (X tons), Norway (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +8.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest copper bar, rod and profile importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and the UK ($X), together accounting for 43% of total imports. France, Poland, Spain, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Austria, Norway and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 43%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +8.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 4.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 31% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while Norway ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+2.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
