Total exports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cotton-seed oil exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a slight decrease. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Ukraine (X tons) was the largest exporter of cotton-seed oil, committing 48% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Greece (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Germany (X tons), together generating a 44% share of total exports. Spain (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.
Exports from Ukraine increased at an average annual rate of +13.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Poland (+111.7%), Germany (+13.3%) and Spain (+12.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +111.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Greece (-3.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Ukraine, Poland, Germany and Spain increased by +29, +14, +8.5 and +2.5 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Germany ($X), Greece ($X) and Ukraine ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 64% of total exports. These countries were followed by Poland and Spain, which together accounted for a further 26%.
Among the main exporting countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +105.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -24.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+3.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

After three years of decline, supplies from abroad of cotton-seed oil increased by 173% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

It was distantly followed by Bulgaria (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Germany (X tons), together generating a 31% share of total imports. The UK (X tons), Poland (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Russia (X tons), France (X tons) and Ireland (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Spain (with a CAGR of +81.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Spain ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cotton-seed oil in Europe, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bulgaria ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Greece, with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Spain amounted to +79.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bulgaria (+33.7% per year) and Greece (-4.2% per year).

In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 3.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
