The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, cotton yarn exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Turkey prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 63% of total exports in 2021. Spain (X tons) took a 9.1% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Italy (7.2%) and Azerbaijan (4.8%). Germany (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to cotton yarn exports from Turkey stood at +6.7%. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+9.2%), Portugal (+8.8%) and Spain (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Azerbaijan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +9.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Italy (-1.5%), Germany (-5.8%) and Belgium (-7.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey and Azerbaijan increased by +17 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest cotton yarn supplier in Europe, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 6.2% share.
In Turkey, cotton yarn exports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (-1.2% per year) and Germany (-4.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, rising by 19% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (+7.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of cotton yarn increased by 18% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country
In 2021, Turkey (X tons) represented the largest importer of cotton yarn, committing 38% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Portugal (X tons), Italy (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Poland (X tons), together mixing up a 44% share of total imports. Spain (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +10.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest cotton yarn importing markets in Europe were Turkey ($X), Portugal ($X) and Italy ($X), with a combined 65% share of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, Turkey, with a CAGR of +9.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a slight downturn.
