Crabs, Not Frozen Market Size in Europe
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was growth in the Europe crabs, not frozen market, when its value increased by 1.4% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a noticeable decrease. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.
Crabs, Not Frozen Production in Europe
In value terms, crabs, not frozen production shrank to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 8.4% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

After four years of growth, shipments abroad of crabs, not frozen decreased by -6.5% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a dramatic decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 33%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, crabs, not frozen exports declined slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 44%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Norway (X tons) represented the major exporter of crabs, not frozen in Europe, making up 99.9% of total export.
Norway was also the fastest-growing in terms of the crabs, not frozen exports, with a CAGR of +30.5% from 2012 to 2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Norway increased by +99 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Norway ($X) also remains the largest crabs, not frozen supplier in Europe.
In Norway, crabs, not frozen exports increased at an average annual rate of +20.4% over the period from 2012-2022.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 3.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 163% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Norway.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Norway amounted to -7.8% per year.

Imports in Europe
Crabs, not frozen imports shrank slightly to X tons in 2022, remaining constant against the year before. In general, imports saw a dramatic setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 367%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, crabs, not frozen imports dropped slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports faced a dramatic decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 477%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Norway (X kg) was the largest importer of crabs, not frozen, generating 43% of total imports. Gibraltar (X kg) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 18% share, followed by Serbia (17%), Andorra (12%) and Belarus (9.4%).
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to crabs, not frozen imports into Norway stood at -24.4%. At the same time, Gibraltar (+31.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Gibraltar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +31.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Belarus (-4.7%), Andorra (-9.2%) and Serbia (-23.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Norway, Gibraltar, Serbia, Andorra and Belarus increased by +42, +18, +17, +12 and +9.4 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Gibraltar ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported crabs, not frozen in Europe, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Andorra ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Norway, with a 17% share.
In Gibraltar, crabs, not frozen imports expanded at an average annual rate of +50.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Andorra (-7.7% per year) and Norway (-31.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -3.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 102%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Gibraltar ($X per ton), while Norway ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Gibraltar (+14.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
