Crispbread Market Size in Europe

In 2021, the Europe crispbread market decreased by -2.3% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 22%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Germany (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) represented roughly 65% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Italy (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons), together constituting a 13% share of total exports. The UK (X tons), Russia (X tons), Norway (X tons), Finland (X tons), Spain (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and France (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Spain (with a CAGR of +42.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Sweden ($X) and Italy ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 66% of total exports. The Netherlands, Norway, the UK, France, Lithuania, Finland, Russia and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.

Spain, with a CAGR of +36.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 7.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+9.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, crispbread imports in Europe contracted to X tons, shrinking by -9.4% compared with 2020. Total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -26.1% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +4.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Among the main importing countries, Belgium, with a CAGR of +14.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 8.4% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+5.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
