The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 27% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, marble and travertine crude exports dropped notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Italy (X tons) and Greece (X tons) dominates exports structure, together creating 78% of total exports. Spain (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by North Macedonia (X tons). All these countries together held near 15% share of total exports. Portugal (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for North Macedonia (with a CAGR of +17.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the largest marble and travertine crude supplier in Europe, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Greece ($X), with a 29% share of total exports. It was followed by Spain, with a 5% share.
In Italy, marble and travertine crude exports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Greece (-0.5% per year) and Spain (-18.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -11.6% against the previous year. Export price indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 39%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
In value terms, marble and travertine crude imports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern.
