The Europe precious stone and pearl market declined remarkably to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -18.5% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, posted a strong increase. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2021, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, precious stone and pearl production reached $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 8.5%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2021 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country
Italy represented the main exporter of cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones in Europe, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 53% of total exports in 2022. Germany (X tons) held a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by France (14%). The following exporters - Switzerland (X tons), the UK (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Poland (X tons) - each resulted at a 7.6% share of total exports.
Italy was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones exports, with a CAGR of +21.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, France (+16.9%) and Poland (+3.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. The UK and Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Austria (-5.0%) and Switzerland (-18.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Italy, France and Germany increased by +50, +13 and +7.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Switzerland ($X), the UK ($X) and France ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 42% share of total exports. Italy, Germany, Austria and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 6.7%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +10.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Cultured Pearls, Precious Or Semi-Precious Stones
Imports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by the UK (X tons), Lithuania (X tons), Italy (X tons), Spain (X tons) and France (X tons) represented the key importers of cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones, together committing 89% of total imports. The following importers - Switzerland (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) - each recorded a 4.2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Lithuania (with a CAGR of +63.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Switzerland ($X), the UK ($X) and France ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 48% share of total imports. Italy, Germany, Spain, Lithuania and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 14%.
Lithuania, with a CAGR of +21.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
