Cumene Market Size in Europe

The Europe cumene market surged to $X in 2021, growing by 40% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Cumene Production in Europe

In value terms, cumene production rose rapidly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production recorded a pronounced decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Europe

In 2021, the amount of cumene exported in Europe skyrocketed to X tons, with an increase of 18% on the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cumene exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep setback. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The Netherlands dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 91% of total exports in 2021. Belgium (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Germany (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The Netherlands experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of cumene. At the same time, Belgium (+213.4%) and Russia (+38.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belgium emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +213.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Germany (-13.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Netherlands, Belgium and Russia increased by +17, +3.3 and +3.2 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest cumene supplier in Europe, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 4.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Russia, with a 3.3% share.

In the Netherlands, cumene exports plunged by an average annual rate of -4.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belgium (+179.3% per year) and Russia (+36.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 69% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Belgium ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) and the Netherlands ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-2.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Cumene Imports

Imports in Europe

In 2021, the amount of cumene imported in Europe soared to X tons, rising by 40% on the year before. In general, imports, however, saw a mild reduction. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cumene imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a noticeable descent. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Belgium prevails in imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 91% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Italy (X tons), achieving a 5.3% share of total imports. Germany (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Belgium experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of cumene. At the same time, Italy (+10.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Italy emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +10.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Germany (-15.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Belgium (+15 p.p.) and Italy (+3.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Germany saw its share reduced by -6.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Belgium ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cumene in Europe, comprising 91% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with a 5% share of total imports.

In Belgium, cumene imports shrank by an average annual rate of -1.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Italy (+6.2% per year) and Germany (-17.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 66% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild setback. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
