From 2019 to 2021, production growth remained at a lower figure.
Russia (X tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of currant and gooseberry production, accounting for 59% of total volume. Moreover, currant and gooseberry production in Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Poland (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X tons), with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Russia stood at +2.6%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Poland (-4.1% per year) and Germany (+0.2% per year).
The average currant and gooseberry yield dropped modestly to X tons per ha in 2021, leveling off at 2020 figures. Overall, the yield recorded a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the yield increased by 8.5% against the previous year. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the yield remained at a lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2021, approx. X ha of currants and gooseberries were harvested in Europe; almost unchanged from the previous year. The harvested area increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the harvested area increased by 12%. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to currant and gooseberry production reached the peak figure at X ha in 2020, and then fell modestly in the following year.

Exports in Europe
In 2021, overseas shipments of currants and gooseberries were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, currant and gooseberry exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -15.5% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 24% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Poland (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) represented the key exporters of currants and gooseberries in Europe, together comprising 59% of total exports. Denmark (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 10% share, followed by Spain (8.4%) and Belarus (6%). Belgium (X tons) and Germany (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +55.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest currant and gooseberry supplier in Europe, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 9.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 9.1% share.
In the Netherlands, currant and gooseberry exports increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (-2.8% per year) and Belgium (+1.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 7% against the previous year. Export price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, currant and gooseberry export price decreased by -17.1% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 24%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Europe
In 2021, the amount of currants and gooseberries imported in Europe totaled X tons, growing by 5.7% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, currant and gooseberry imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by Italy (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Belgium (X tons), France (X tons) and Russia (X tons) represented the main importers of currants and gooseberries, together making up 73% of total imports. The following importers - the UK (X tons), Austria (X tons), Spain (X tons), Poland (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) - together made up 18% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Poland (with a CAGR of +55.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest currant and gooseberry importing markets in Europe were the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X), together comprising 46% of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, Poland, Belgium, the UK, Spain, Austria, Russia, Slovakia and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 38%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +61.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 17% against the previous year. Import price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, currant and gooseberry import price decreased by -10.0% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 49%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
