The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 31%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes exports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a mild curtailment. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The shipments of the three major exporters of cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes (excluding cyclohexane), namely Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, represented more than two-thirds of total export. In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes supplier in Europe, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with an 11% share.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 19%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the four major importers of cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes (excluding cyclohexane), namely Belgium, Germany, France and the Netherlands, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by Italy (X tons), achieving a 7.7% share of total imports. Spain (X tons), the UK (X tons), Poland (X tons), Switzerland (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Finland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +13.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), France ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), with a combined 54% share of total imports. Belgium, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, the UK, Poland, Russia and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 40%.

Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
