Cyclohexane Market Size in Europe

In 2021, the Europe cyclohexane market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a perceptible slump. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cyclohexane production rose remarkably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Europe

In 2021, approx. X tons of cyclohexane were exported in Europe; shrinking by -16.9% against 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports saw a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cyclohexane exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a deep downturn. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) represented the major exporters of cyclohexane in 2021, resulting at near 47% and 35% of total exports, respectively. Belgium (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 12% share, followed by Russia (5.5%).

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of +34.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, the largest cyclohexane supplying countries in Europe were Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Belgium ($X), with a combined 94% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Russia, which accounted for a further 5.5%.

Russia, with a CAGR of +22.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 63% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a pronounced decrease. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Belgium ($X per ton) and the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Germany ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (-1.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Europe

In 2021, the amount of cyclohexane imported in Europe was estimated at X tons, surging by 8.6% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 19%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cyclohexane imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a noticeable decline. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Belgium was the largest importer of cyclohexane in Europe, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 75% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by France (X tons), achieving a 17% share of total imports. Germany (X tons) and Spain (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

Belgium was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cyclohexane imports, with a CAGR of +1.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Spain (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. France experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Germany (-5.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Belgium (+12 p.p.) and Spain (+3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Germany saw its share reduced by -2.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Belgium ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cyclohexane in Europe, comprising 73% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 3.8% share.

In Belgium, cyclohexane imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: France (-2.4% per year) and Germany (-6.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible slump. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
