As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, calendering cylinder exports expanded modestly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a pronounced setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X units) represented the main exporter of cylinders for calendering, committing 45% of total exports. Austria (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 12% share, followed by Italy (9.9%), Belgium (9.8%) and Switzerland (8.3%). The following exporters - the Czech Republic (X units) and France (X units) - each amounted to a 6% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to calendering cylinder exports from Germany stood at -4.8%. At the same time, Italy (+3.4%) and Switzerland (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Italy emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +3.4% from 2012-2021. The Czech Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belgium (-1.6%), France (-3.5%) and Austria (-7.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Italy (+4.8 p.p.), Switzerland (+3.1 p.p.) and Belgium (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Germany (-3.5 p.p.) and Austria (-5.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest calendering cylinder supplier in Europe, comprising 44% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Austria ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with a 9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany totaled -4.7%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Austria (+1.5% per year) and Italy (+3.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 47%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while the Czech Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+10.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

Calendering cylinder imports skyrocketed to X units in 2021, picking up by 66% against the previous year. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, calendering cylinder imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Austria was the main importer of cylinders for calendering in Europe, with the volume of imports reaching X units, which was near 54% of total imports in 2021. Germany (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Italy (X units), Belgium (X units) and Switzerland (X units). All these countries together took near 31% share of total imports. The following importers - the UK (X units) and Slovakia (X units) - each resulted at a 6.5% share of total imports.

Imports into Austria increased at an average annual rate of +17.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Slovakia (+49.9%), the UK (+12.3%), Italy (+6.8%) and Belgium (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovakia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +49.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Switzerland (-5.9%) and Germany (-6.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Austria (+35 p.p.) and Slovakia (+3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Belgium (-3.2 p.p.), Switzerland (-8.4 p.p.) and Germany (-19.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest calendering cylinder importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), Austria ($X) and Italy ($X), with a combined 44% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Slovakia, Switzerland, Belgium and the UK, which together accounted for a further 30%.

Among the main importing countries, Slovakia, with a CAGR of +53.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -22.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 15%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per unit), while Austria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
