Dairy Machinery Market Size in Europe

In 2022, the Europe dairy machinery market decreased by -10.6% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. In general, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Dairy Machinery Production in Europe

In value terms, dairy machinery production expanded modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 16%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Europe

In 2022, after four years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of dairy machinery, when their volume increased by 12% to X units. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild slump. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, dairy machinery exports shrank notably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Spain (X units), distantly followed by Russia (X units), Italy (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Poland (X units), Germany (X units), Sweden (X units), Denmark (X units) and France (X units) represented the key exporters of dairy machinery, together making up 77% of total exports. The following exporters - the UK (X units), Greece (X units), Switzerland (X units) and Slovakia (X units) - together made up 12% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +19.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest dairy machinery supplying countries in Europe were Denmark ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X), together comprising 37% of total exports. Poland, the Netherlands, Sweden, France, Spain, Switzerland, the UK, Greece, Russia and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 50%.

Slovakia, with a CAGR of +9.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, reducing by -27.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 9.4% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2021, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Greece (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Dairy Machinery Imports

Imports in Europe

In 2022, the amount of dairy machinery imported in Europe rose markedly to X units, picking up by 14% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, saw a slight contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 33%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, dairy machinery imports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the largest importing country with an import of around X units, which accounted for 31% of total imports. Switzerland (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Germany (6.7%), Greece (5.6%), Belarus (4.9%) and France (4.5%). The following importers - the UK (X units), Italy (X units), Ireland (X units), Austria (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Spain (X units) and Slovakia (X units) - together made up 21% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to dairy machinery imports into Russia stood at +8.6%. At the same time, Switzerland (+18.4%), Slovakia (+10.4%), Ireland (+8.5%), Greece (+8.0%), Italy (+4.1%) and Germany (+2.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Switzerland emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +18.4% from 2012-2022. Spain experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Austria (-3.5%), France (-3.8%), Belarus (-9.1%), the UK (-9.8%) and the Netherlands (-17.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+20 p.p.), Switzerland (+10 p.p.), Greece (+3.4 p.p.), Germany (+2.4 p.p.), Ireland (+2.2 p.p.) and Italy (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the UK, Belarus and the Netherlands saw its share reduced by -5.8%, -5.8% and -13% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported dairy machinery in Europe, comprising 26% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 9.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Greece, with a 7.5% share.

In Russia, dairy machinery imports expanded at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Germany (+3.4% per year) and Greece (+10.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, declining by -19.8% against the previous year. Import price indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 27%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2021, and then fell markedly in the following year.
